He was asked while making ritual circumambulation of the Kaabah in Makkah by someone he refers to only as' brother' to compose such a book so that the Muslims of his time could adhere to proper belief in their dogmatic doctrine and be corrected on misunderstandings, he therefore composed 'Alam al Huda'.
